Shiphay and Willows Community Partnership Meeting

A ward partnership held on Monday October 6, 2009, voted overwhelmingly to reject development in Scotts Meadows and Edginswell valley.

OUR GROUP

THE Scotts Meadow Project Group was set up in 1999 as a number of residents were concerned to keep the meadows adjacent to Riviera Way at the gateway to Torquay as a natural open space for the benefit of the local community.

The meadows on the northern gateway to Torquay are now surrounded by development for housing at The Willows and the new business park at Edginswell.
Over the road is the unspoilt farmland of Teignbridge.

Scotts Meadows are now threatened by proposals for 230 homes highlighted in the proposed new Torbay Council planning blueprint and shortly to be subject of a planning application by Cavanna Homes.
WE NEED YOUR HELP to protect these meadows and enhance their value as a wildlife site, particularly as they have been unfarmed for around 20 years; a local amenity much valued by dog walkers in particular; an outdoor classroom for local children who can learn why preserving the slow worms, butterflies, birds, and bats on their doorstep is every bit as important as campaigning to save threatened dolphins, whales and rain forests.
